Treasures at FCCC-Loughborough

To support our interest in the changes Spring brings to nature, we decided to go for a nice walk on the Cataraqui Trail. We brought a large bag to collect nature pieces along our journey. The children were buzzing with excitement over the “treasures” they had found. They collected flowers, sticks, rocks, and a variety of leaves which sparked many wonderful conversations along the way.

The next day, we took our bags of “treasures” outside during our outdoor learning time. We brought out the tuff tray and quickly began preparing and cooking some “Nature Soup”. The sounds of delighted children chattering filled the air. There were discussions regarding the different ingredients they were adding and what the nature pieces represented. One child could be heard letting her peers know to “Be Careful”, as she added the pinecones because they were “Spicy”. Another child handed out sticks because “That’s how we stir soup”! It was a joy to be able to utilize our nature pieces alongside our outdoor pots, pans and utensils for this activity. We look forward to making more delicious soup in different seasons and we may even make our own recipe book some day!
